Admission to the College Programs
Before students apply for a place in a College program, they should consider
the following information related to that program, so that they are familiar
with the structure of study at the College and what is required of them to
graduate successfully.

General Requirements
Admission to the College of Health Sciences for the Bachelor of Science in
Nursing and any Associate Degree (AD) program is open to students who:
-
have graduated from a recognized secondary school with a science certificate of
70% or higher, within the last two years.
-
pass the College entrance examinations which includes English and any other
tests required by the Admission Committee.

pass a personal interview.
-
pass medical and other required examinations
-
withdrew from the College and wish to resume studies within 3 years.
-
are not dropouts of any of the College’s programs in previous years.

Academic Requirements
All candidates should expect a careful review of their past academic record.
The minimum academic requirements vary with the specific program of training.
Please refer to the specific program of interest for details.

English Language
All students must be able to write with a level of mastery equal to the demands
of the College’s course work. In addition, students need to acquire the
critical reading and comprehension skills necessary for all their courses. All
applicants must take the GCPT (General Competence Placement Test) prior to
admission to the College.
The GCPT is an assessment tool used to evaluate the English proficiency of
applicants. The writing component is designed to test their general ability to
cope with an academic environment where the medium of instruction is English.

Citizenship
The vast majority of the College of Health Sciences students are Bahrainis, but
Gulf nationals are admitted to the different programs. Other nationalities are
welcome to apply, and will be admitted to the programs if they fulfill the
Admission Requirements.

Admission Period

Once a year for B.Sc. in Nursing and Allied Health Associate Degree level
programs, usually in June or July.

Once a year for Post Basic and BSN (completion) programs (usually in March).

How to apply more>>
All students who wish to apply to the CHS must complete an application for
admission (provided by the Registration and Admission Office). Applicants must
submit the application form, together with the documents specified below:
Attach the following to the application:

A copy of the CPR card
-
Three photographs (3x4 cm).

A copy of the first pages of your passport.
-
A copy of the grades obtained in the school leaving examination or equivalent.
For non-secondary certificate holders a copy of the grades obtained must be
submitted with a copy of the approved equivalency issued by Ministry of
Education in Bahrain.

The completed application form along with the attachments listed above must be
forwarded to the Registration and Admission Office.
If your application is correctly completed and all required supporting
materials have arrived by the closing date advertised you will be informed
about the date for the GCPT (General Competence Placement Test), and any
relevant information related to the processing of your application

Accommodation more>>
The College is non-residential for local students. However, the College
provides accommodation for overseas students. The college accommodation is
situated close to the campus at Rufaida building. Transport to and from the
College is provided on a daily basis.
There are also many privately owned flats around the area. However, the College
has no control over the lease rates of such flats.

- Where to eat
College cafeteria provides sandwiches, beverages and hot lunches with
appropriate prices and is under the complete supervision of college
administration. It is open for all during official work hours. The cafeteria in Salmaniya Medical Centre is open 24 hours in addition to the
vending machines containing snacks and beverages. A wide selection of fast food
outlets, coffee shops and snack services are also available near CHS.
- Sports
The outdoor courts provide enjoyable and meaningful experiences that allow
students to enjoy the benefits of sports in a natural environment. The CHS teams represent the College in various sports activities nationally and
regionally exposing the team members to enjoyable and memorable experiences and
challenges.
- Activities
After daily classes during the College year and during activity hours, it is
hoped that students interact through social, recreational and sporting
activities.
A wide variety of indoor games and sports are available in the Students’ Common
Room. Regular sporting contests among students of the College and with other
educational institutions are a major feature. Cultural activities range from picnics to tennis (there are two courts on
campus), movie shows, and painting and talent contests. These are usually
arranged by the Student Committee.
- Student Orientation
At the beginning of each academic year the Office of Student Affairs through
the Counselling and Public Relations Office conducts an orientation program for
all new students. This program helps new students get acclimated to CHS, meet
other new students, as well as senior students who assist with the orientation
program.
- Student Welfare Committee
This Committee aims at developing students academically and professionally. It
also aims at developing student's health and social welfare. The committee has
3 faculty and 8 elected students.
