Ahmed Al-Farsi Library

Ahmed Al-Farsi Library was established in 1976 through a generous donation given by Shaikhan Ahmed Al-Farsi . Ahmed Al -Farsi library is located at college of health sciences; the college of health sciences is the only provider of high quality, efficient and comprehensive health care training for nurses and allied health professionals in Bahrain. The college was established in 1976 and has developed both new facilities and new programs since then continually responding to the changes in demand from the health care industry.
The library is completely link with HID network , in this regard a tremendous co operation has taken place between the library and HID. The electronic medical library was launched beginning of 2003 aiming to serve the health community of MOH through the Internet network. The health local community of MOH can now be benefited from the services available through the electronic library by accessing the intranet website (http:\\intranet.health.gov.bh/emli/index.html).
Electronic development in the library fields plays great roles in shaping the future of the library. In the long run library intends to move to worlds virtual library. It aims to increase the number of medical electronic databases and make sure they are accessible online to the local health community inside MOH. In addition, the library tries it's best to provide the state of the art services to it's patrons within the available limitation of budget. The increasing demands of various services available either online or hard copy put more pressure on the library management to meet such demands through the availability of the limited annual budget.
Ahmed Al Farsi library is considered as a WHO focal point in Kingdom of Bahrain, also, it's seen to be the first medical library in the Kingdom beside the library of the College of Medicine.
Who we serve?

Ahmed Al-Farsi Library offers its services primarily to the members of the College of Health Sciences, Salmaniya Medical Complex, Psychiatric Hospitals, Public Health Centers, and other members in the Ministry of Health. Any individual who has a valid need for materials from the Ahmed Al Farsi Library, and is unable to obtain them from his own library, is welcome to use the materials available in the library.
All members of the Ministry of Health are asked to cooperate with the Library in enforcing this policy and are specifically requested not to borrow materials in behalf of Non-Ministry employees.
Rules for the Library use:
- Silence must be observed at all times in the Library. This rule is for the benefit of those – who need quiet in order to study. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE.
- No eating, drinking, or smoking.
- Do not return books to the Library shelves yourself. Leave the books on the tables for the library staff to shelve.
Restricted Materials:
In order to serve all library patrons as effectively and efficiently as possible with the resources available to it, the Library is obliged to place restriction upon the use of certain materials. In the interest of users and staff alike we ask your cooperation in abiding by Library policies and regulations.
Most Reference Materials consist of those items which are not read from cover to cover but are consulted for limited and specific types information. Some additional titles, however, may be placed on Reference because they are expensive or because they are difficult to control.
All reference materials are located in Reference area for searching, and they are designated with a reference label on the spine of each book.
They may not be used outside the library. They do not circulate.
Reserve Materials: ( Circulation Desk)
Most reserve materials consist o those items which are limited in number of copies and are in heavy demand. Materials are generally placed On Reserve at the request of an instructor for the use of students in his or her class. Some additional titles, however, may be placed On Reserve for control purposes. Materials may be placed on temporary reference also.
Late or Overdue Books:
Please return your books on time. There is an overdue charge of 100 fils per day per book.
Lost Books:
You are responsible for all books taken out under your name. you must pay the Library the current replacement costs of any books you cannot return to us.
Loan Period:
Most of our books are circulated for a (4) four weeks loan period. Check at the back of the book for the date on which the book is due to be returned. Bring the book in to be renewed if you have not finished. We will renew it provided that no one else is waiting for this book.
