- Curriculum Development
Since the CHS is always striving towards a better system of delivering training
and education to its students, college curriculum needs to be updated according
to both the innovative trends in the field and new strategies adopted by the College.
This section is concerned with development of curriculum in all CHS departments
and the process of integration among curriculum in various specialties
- Methodology
The process of teaching includes continuous development and adoption of newly emerging
techniques, which necessitate updating faculty with the latest and most appropriate
teaching methods. This section aims at enhancing the teaching efficiency of the
faculty at the CHS. It also focuses on the developing trends in the field of education
and on the new educational strategies which the CHS adopts.
- Assessment and Evaluation Centre
The mission of the Assessment and Evaluation Center is to provide quality services
to faculty, MOH employees and students to enable them improve their educational
effectiveness.
Assessment Center at the CHS provides four types of services:
- Grading Exams
All Multiple Choice Questions are graded by using the Scantron machine. This is
to ensure accuracy, eliminate mistakes and save time. Exam results are produced
using the MS Excel program. A full analysis of the exam content is also available
for the concerned faculty.
- Conducting Surveys
The Center investigates educational and organizational matters at the CHS regarding
the development of student life at the CHS and College environment issues.
- Conducting Studies
The Center designs and conducts studies and research that target certain development
needs and evaluate the quality of services offered at the CHS.
- Evaluating Teacher Performance
The Assessment Center coordinates and monitors faculty performance at the CHS through
the Student Feedback Questionnaire.
The EDC supports staff and departments to make use of the feedback for the improvement
of learning and teaching by providing the faculty with the analysis of the student
evaluation.
- Education Programs
Besides the Education Courses, the EDC offers Teacher Training Program (TTP), Workshops and Short Courses.
- Teacher Training Program
The teacher training program is offered by the EDC to newly recruited CHS faculty who have only limited teaching experience. It consists of:
- Teaching and Learning Theories
- Methodology
- Assessment and Evaluation
- Curriculum Design and Development
- Education Management
Goal:
The basic purpose of this program is to prepare teachers in the field of Health Education.
Duration:
1 academic year
- Workshops and Short Courses
Based on the training needs assessment and department requests, the EDC develops, organizes and conducts short courses and workshops for the College of Health Sciences faculty, the MOH health professionals and sponsored candidates from the GCC as well as the WHO EMRO Region. The workshops are of a multipurpose nature and seek to enable participants build courses, prepare instruction media, use statistical analysis techniques, and develop management skills
- Media Production
The Media Section serves as a professional media resource unit for the College of
Health Sciences faculty and staff as well as for healthcare professionals working
at Salmaniya Medical Complex and the Ministry of Health. It provides the following
Services:
- Graphic and multimedia design
- Technical assistance and consultation in media design
- Installation and maintenance of IT hardware, software and audio-visual equipment
in classrooms and other locations
- Video conferences
- Duplication of X-rays, CT scans, MRI and photographs
- Photography and video coverage of events
